Obama’s housing secretary to speak in New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Julian Castro, who was President Barack Obama’s housing secretary and is a former mayor of San Antonio, will speak at a Democratic awards event in New Hampshire.

Castro speaks Friday night in Manchester at the Granite Slate Awards, which is put on by the New Hampshire Young Democrats to honor Democrats making a difference in the state.

Castro hasn’t said whether he would run for president in 2020 but his visit to New Hampshire has some Democrats hopeful. A rising star in the Democratic Party, Castro was among the names mentioned as a potential vice president pick for Hillary Clinton in 2016 before she chose Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine.

Before his speech to Democrats, Castro speaks to students at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College.
